Vehicle display market to reach US$72 billion in 2020, says IEK

The vehicle display market is expected to climb to US$7.2 billion in 2020, up from US$5.5 billion in 2015, due to increased demand for smart cars in addition to IoT services in new vehicles, according to IEK.

Applications such as instrument clusters, central information displays and rear seat entertainment displays are all increasing in demand as car makers further incorporate smart and entertainment features into their vehicles.

IEK said that since 2014 the average amount of panels used in vehicles has increased from 0.6 in 2012 to 0.8 in 2015 and will reach 1.2 in 2020.

Japan Display, Sharp, LG Display, AU Optronics (AUO) and Kyocera Display are some of the makers expected to see orders grow, with AUO expected to see 30% on-year growth.
